Marietta Carmichael & Galax Theatre Guild Legacy Scholarships
What better way to preserve the arts (all arts) than by enabling the youth of today to cultivate their dreams? The Arts & Cultural Council of the Twin Counties is aiding in doing just that.
Each year, The Arts Council awards a scholarship to a graduating senior in each of our local high schools and a home-schooled and private school students. A FIFTH Scholarship is now available thanks to the Galax Theatre Guild Legacy Fund for students looking to pursue their studies in Theatre (performance, directing, design or production). The original four scholarships are given in honor of Mrs. Marietta Carmichael, past president and avid supporter for the arts. Recipients are selected based on their past experiences with the arts, high school achievements, their future plans to continue studying the arts at the college level, and ideas to implement the arts into their careers. Applications are due each year in April.
Since 1998, the Arts Council has awarded more than $28,000 to 67 different students.
