The Arts Council of the Twin Counties

The Galax-Carroll-Grayson area of southwestern Virginia boasts an amazing variety of artistic expression. Among the groups active for many years in the Twin Counties are a theatre guild, a community chorus, several art/artisan guilds, and a thriving traditional music organization.

Our community is the proud home of countless artisans in such fields as needlework, fiber arts, sculpting, woodworking, metalwork, stained glass, photography, basketry, pottery, jewelry-making, writing, dance, and music. In 1987 a dedicated group of individuals organized the Arts and Cultural Council of the Twin Counties in response to – and in appreciation of – this rich culture.  The Arts Council became a 501(c)3 in 1992.  With generous support from donors, The Arts Council is now able to broaden and enhance the artistic experience of its citizens through performances and workshops.

The Arts & Cultural Council is governed by a working board of professionals from the community and is operated by a full-time executive director. The Council is supported by individual, family, and corporate memberships, donations, memorials, the City of Galax, the Town of Hillsville, Grayson County, Carroll County, The Virginia Commission for the Arts, The National Endowment for the Arts, Virginia Tourism Corporation, and The Twin County Community Foundation.
