Missoula Children’s Theatre

This summer, the Arts & Cultural Council is very excited to host the Missoula Children’s Theatre!  In a week-long residency open to all school-aged children in the Twin Counties, theatre professionals from the Missoula Children’s Theatre will audition and cast up to 60 area children (rising 1-12 graders) for roles in CINDERELLA. During the week, the children rehearse the play, learning their lines, music and choreography. On Saturday, June 25th, the public is invited to attend the play and celebrate the fruit of their labor. Participation for the children is free of charge and a modest ticket price will be charged to attend the play.

The audition for the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of CINDERELLA will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Galax High School Auditorium. There are roles for those students entering 1st grade through to those students entering their senior year. Approximately 50-60 local students will be cast to appear in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/Director. Please understand, there is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session. The first rehearsal begins approximately 15-30 minutes after the audition.

This is a group audition – no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile J never hurts. Students should just be ready to come and have a good time!

Rehearsals will be conducted every day from 10am to 2:30pm at Galax High School in the Auditorium and Cafeteria. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. For cast members scheduled for the full 4½ hours of rehearsal Galax City Schools will provide lunch (Monday – Friday only), but they are also welcome to bring their own sack lunch, dinner or snack.  Parent & Guardians will need to arrange transportation to and from rehearsals & the performance for their participating children.

The performance of CINDERELLA will be held on Saturday, June 25th at 4pm and will be presented at Galax High School. The students in the cast will be called for dress rehearsal before the performance that day. All those cast must be available for all scheduled performances.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Montana. This coming year more than 65,000 cast members across the globe will take to the stage to the delight and applause of their families, friends, community, neighbors and teachers!  The residency in the Twin Counties is made possible by the Arts & Cultural Council of the Twin Counties which is funded by individual, businesses and local municipalities as well as the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
