Almost Maine by John Cariani

AUDITIONS FOR “ALMOST MAINE”  MARCH 8TH & 9TH AT THE GALAX PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Arts Council of the Twin Counties announces auditions for “Almost, Maine” by John Cariani on Sunday, March 8th at 2pm and Monday March 9th at 7pm.  All auditions will take place at the Galax Public Library Conference Room.  The Galax Public Library is located at 610 West Stuart Drive in Galax, Virginia.  “Almost, Maine” is a journey that looks at relationships of all types through the lens of a magical, at times mystical, realism.  The play will be performed at the Rex Theatre in Galax, May 21, 22, 23 & 24, 2026.

There are 19 total roles spanning across 8 scenes, as well as a prologue and epilogue.  Some actors will be playing roles in more than one scene, and each of these scenes deals with a different couple who show us that life is more than just what we see—it’s what we feel.  It should be noted that there is one scene—scene 5— that requires either male with male or female with female. While the scene isn’t explicitly sexual in any way, the implication is that the two same sex individuals are open to falling in love with an unexpected friend—each other. There is no kissing, no embracing, no real touching, just honest feelings told in a humorous manner. We are asking that If you don’t wish to read for these roles, that you let us know at the time of your audition.

Potential roles are available for all ages from 17 to 70!

PROLOGUE/INTERLOGUE/EPILOGUE: Ginette & Pete – Two young lovers who have been dating for a little while

SCENE 1 Her Heart: East – A repairman in whose yard the scene takes place and Glory – A hiker whose heart needs mending

SCENE 4 Getting It Back: Gayle & Lendall – longtime girlfriend & boyfriend who are deciding what the future holds

SCENE 5 They Fell: Randy & Chad – two friends talk about dating; realize they’re closer than they know  OR  Deena & Shelly – same scenario as Randy and Chad

SCENE 6 Where It Went:  Phil – hardworking husband who doesn’t “see” his wife and Marci – hardworking wife who doesn’t “get” her husband

SCENE 8 Seeing the Thing:  Rhonda – tough acting woman, friend to Dave and Dave – friend to Rhonda but in love with her unknown to her
