LOVE IN STAGES – An Evening of One Acts
Directed by Patrick Butler, LOVE IN STAGES will be performed on October 12, 13, 14 & 15, 2023 at the 1908 Courthouse in Independence and on Saturday, October 21st at the Historic Courthouse in Hillsville. The first play is “Boy Meets Girl” by Sam Wolfson, and the second play is “Let’s Go Already” by Joshua John McKay. The third one-act play is “Kalamazoo” by Michelle Kholos Brooks.
“Boy Meets Girl” by Sam Wolfson stars Mason Blevins and Abby Hill playing Sam and Katie as they go through the trials and tribulations o f love at the tender age of five in this hilarious and sweet take on young romance. From the decision to check the “yes” box of their boyfriend/girlfriend contracts to more serious conversations about past nap partners, Sam and Katie find themselves entering into a genuine relationship, all in the midst of worrying about the spelling bee, selling Girl Scout cookies, and figuring out what they want to be when they grow up.
“Let’s Go Already” by Joshua John McKay stars Pam Roberts and Matt Hershock playing Harry and Edith, a married couple on the night of their 40th wedding anniversary. Harry and Edith bicker and banter while getting ready for a night on the town. Though the air is filled with insults and arguments, a bit of marital bliss might shine through by evening’s end.
“Kalamazoo” by Michelle Kholos Brooks and Kelly Younger stars Patrick Butler and Terri Ingalls playing Peg and Irv, two quirky but endearing baby-boomers, bravely venturing into the world of modern dating. When these opposites attract, they discover love isn’t any easier the second time around.
