The second Winter Concert from The Arts Council of the Twin Counties features the Chrysalis Brass Quintet from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. The concert will be on Sunday, February 19th at 3pm at the Historic 1908 Courthouse in Independence. Admission is FREE, with donations gratefully accepted at the door.
Formed in the fall of 2015 as a part of the Chrysalis Chamber Music Institute, the Chrysalis Brass Quintet is the premier brass ensemble at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Along with performances on campus, they have performed numerous outreach programs within the Piedmont Triad Area and across North Carolina and Virginia. The quintet promotes brass playing through performing a mix of standard brass ensemble repertoire and arrangements of well-known folk, jazz, and pop tunes. Thanks to a partnership with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the quintet has been coached by artists such as Stiletto Brass, the President’s Own Marine Corps Brass Quintet, and Ida Bieler. The group includes Chris Williams, Lousson Smith, Brittany Thomas, Daniel Kane, and C.J. Luke. They will perform old and new works by Ingolf Dahl, Robert Nagel, Giovanni Gabrieli, and various other composers.
