The members and board of The Arts Council believe that art is important to the life of a community and nourishes human development. Its purpose is threefold:
- To promote communication, cooperation, and support of the arts in the Twin Counties.
- To serve as a liaison between the arts and businesses, government, and educational institutes.
- To provide educational services for and about the arts.
The Arts Council carries out this mission through classes, lectures, and performances for adults and children. Additionally, a Carmichael Scholarship is presented annually to graduating seniors from each of the local high schools who are pursuing further studies in the visual or performing arts along with a Galax Theatre Guild Legacy Fund Scholarship to a Twin County graduating senior who will be pursuing further studies in theatre.
The Arts & Cultural Council of the Twin Counties is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts throughout the Twin Counties. The Arts Council is funded in part by area individuals and businesses, local municipalities, the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
