The Annual Meeting of the Arts Council of the Twin Counties is an open meeting to approve the new officers and board members for 2012 -2013 as well as present the upcoming budget and 2012—2013 schedule of events.

In addition to awarding the EMPTY BOWLS proceeds, we will be honoring the 2012 Carmichael Scholarship winners:

THE WINTER CONCERT SERIES continues on Sunday, March 18^th with CLASSICAL GUITAR!

Studying under Joseph Pecoraro, the performers are UNCSA college Juniors, David Krawiec, Michael Root, Neal Shipe, Joseph Wooten.

Given in honor of Marietta Carmichael, a former Arts Council president and avid arts supporter, the Arts Council of the Twin Counties has awarded 46 scholarships totaling over $22,000 since the program began in 1998.  Funds are sent directly to the designated university toward any educational expense.  This scholarship fund is designed to help a high school senior who is interested in pursuing further education in the visual or performing arts in a 2 or 4 year college/university. The artistic field need not be the student’s academic major or primary career goal, but should complement their overall plan. Applications are available through area high school guidance counselors and may also be downloaded from the ”Scholarship” page on this website.

For 2012, The Arts Council looks to award one $500 scholarship in each of these four categories:  Galax City, Carroll County, Grayson County and to students educated outside the traditional public school system (i.e. home schooled youth and private school students).  At its discretion, The Arts Council may choose to withhold awarding one or more scholarships if no applicants are deemed appropriate.

Scholarship recipients will be expected to attend the Arts Council’s Annual Meeting on Saturday, May 19th at 2pm in Galax.  We encourage their immediate family and their scholastic and artistic mentors to attend as well.  All applicants will be notified of the outcome no later than five days following the Annual Meeting. 

The Arts Council serves the Twin County area by enriching the lives of our residents through promotion of a variety of arts, and is sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Virginia Commission for the Arts and PENNPat as well as area governments, individuals and businesses throughout the Twin Counties.
